The Business of Living

The Business of Living

I don’t know about you, but it really feels to me as if summer is over.  Things have been incredibly moving and momentous over the last few weeks – and history has been made.  But now it feels like we all need to ‘knuckle down’ and get on with the business of living.

That means getting back into our routines, doing our normal daily tasks, working hard to meet our targets and achieve our objectives.

So, looking forward, how do we achieve this?

Yes, we need to know what our targets and objectives are – in some ways that’s the easy bit.  Knowing how to achieve them is much harder.  It involves a close look at what we have done in the past that has served us, what we want to achieve in the future, and what we can do now that will really make a difference.

The old saying goes along the lines that if you keep doing what you are doing you will (with a bit of luck) keep achieving what you are achieving.  But what if you would like to achieve more – maybe increase your income, double it even?  Develop a new skill, have a greater impact in your organisation?  Make real changes that impact the way you view yourself, the way others view you and create changes that impact your life more generally?

I think that our late Queen truly embraced these goals and objectives.  Yes, she held a privileged position, never having to worry about money, having the best of everything – but I don’t think that was what defined her.  I believe that she took all of the opportunities life afforded her and did the very best she could with them.  We can all follow her example, in our own small ways, and build a better life for ourselves and for each other.
